DeWan and Motorsport

In 1964 Tom DeWan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin  created a unique motorsports themed jacket with an asymmetrical racing stripe design down one side of the garment. Tom and his wife Carol produced 50k jackets for Good Year Tire and Rubber, and soon other big names in the automotive/Motorsport industry was keeping DeWan Manufacturing busy with custom orders. Pirelli, STP, Firestone, Ford, Yamaha, Honda, Bardahl, Hurst, 76 , Permatex, and others were all sporting DeWan Racing Apparel.

DeWan Manufacturing even sponsored Indy cars, the number 28 car driven by Bill Simpson, of Simpson brand in car safety devices, was the official DeWan Jackets car. You could also see the DeWan name adorning the wings and bodies of various other cars in the field of that era.

DeWan Speed Apparel was also in Hollywood movies and worn by stars of the day including Paul Newman and Robert Wagner in Winning, and Steve McQueen in Le Mans.
In the 60s and 70s DeWan apparel was seen in almost all facets of motor racing from racing suits to jackets and pit crew shirts.

I started DeWan Co. as a passion project to honor my grandparents and their important role in mortorsports history. Drawing from the classic nostalgia of my grandfather's creations, these newly reworked designs carry their legacy forward.
